The Wellness Philosophy

There are few things more comforting to me than a warm mug of deliciously spiced chai. The ritual of brewing almost becomes an act of mindfulness itself, encouraging us to slow down and act more intentionally. The spices in this blend also come with a whole host of benefits, with anti-inflammatory ginger root and blood sugar stabilising cinnamon, as well as many more. The perfect alternative to your morning coffee with still a mild caffeine hit!

Equipment: Tea Strainer | Saucepan with a pouring lip preferable but not essential

Ingredients for Chai Blend

50g Loose Leaf Black Tea (I used Tesco Gold brand)

15g Cardamom Pods

1 Cinnamon Stick (broken into small pieces)

15g Whole Cloves

10g Peppercorns (Black or Pink work well)

4 Star Anise (broken into small pieces)

Ingredients for Chai Latte

1 tsp Homemade Chai Blend

1 Cup Oat Mylk (Oatly Barista is best)

1 inch Fresh Ginger Root (thinly sliced)

1 tsp Maple Syrup (optional to sweeten)

Method

  1. Mix all of the ingredients for the chai blend together well and store in an airtight container or jar.
  2. For the latte, add the chai blend, ginger, and oat mylk to the saucepan. Place on a low heat.
  3. Stir frequently, allowing the mylk to slowing heat and brew the chai.
  4. Once you see the mixture begin to steam (not boil), take the saucepan off of the heat.
  5. Using the tea strainer, pour the mixture into your favourite mug.
  6. Add the maple syrup or sweetener of choice is using.
  7. Enjoy!

NB: Some ‘bits’ will inevitably make it through the tea strainer but will sink to the bottom quite quickly.
